I have had this conversation with many people lately, so rather than trying to dig my through my email, I thought I would put my recommendations into a post. Akismet - helps to prevent spam bots from posting on your site.  You will need to register with them, and get your code.  This is helpful to keep most spam bots from posting comments on your blog.  If you don't allow comments, well I really don't consider you a blog, as you don't allow for two way communication.
