So I have been trying very hard to give consideration what I think is key for website search engine optimization. If writing isn’t difficult enough, writting for the web is completely different. You must through out conceptions about writing and change your thoughts about how to design your content for a search engines, search engines aren’t your high school english teacher, just so you know.
1. Write with your keyword in mind. For example, if I am going to do a post about a black and white spotted dog, I am going to name the article using the term black and white spotted dog. If I am using wordpress, I am going to be sure my page name, and my keyword are the same.
2. Use your keyword liberally, when I say liberally use your keyword in about 4% of the article, this way search engines know you mean business around a particular keyword. Be dense in your keyword, but don’t go overboard.
3. Put your keyword in an <h1>/<h1> tag, this way, again, the search engine knows that black and white spotted dog is very important.
4. If you are using a photo, don’t name is photo1.jpg, name the photo black and white spotted dog.jpg, if you can put an alt tag in there that is “photo of black and white spotted dog”. This way when someone searches for photos of black and white spotted dogs, your site will come up.
5. Link to other pages internally, and externally that relate. For example, I may already have another post on my site about teaching dogs tricks, so I would link the one page to the next.
6. Look for other blogs writing about similar content, and leave a comment, with instead of the link to the top page of your site, link to the page about your black and white spotted dog.
7. Write consistently, this way search engines will come back to your site often, you want those search engines to come every day and visit you. Stay fresh, this means writing at least 2 to 3 times a week.
8. Consider being thematic when it comes to your blog, if you are going to write about dogs, make sure all your posts relate to dogs.
9. Read other blogs with similar themes so you can stay current with your site, if you notice a trend, embrace it, your goal is to bring readers to your site. For example, if all of the dog sites suddenly start to write about clothes dogs like to wear, write something about clothes that dogs like to wear. Yes, I know, most dogs do not like to wear clothes.
10. Keep key words that you want to be known for in mind, always, if I was writing a blog about dogs, and I wanted more people to notice, I really like to write about training dogs, I would start to sprinkle information about training dogs in my blog more often. I would make a concerted effort to do so.
Writing for a blog is different, if you are writing your blog to be search engine friendly, think like a search engine, you want to build an audience and share your ideas with others that have similar interests. Be mindful when you post, so your posts can rise to the top of search engines.
The black and white spotted dog was not harmed in writing this post, she slept soundly the whole time.
